The Bible as Guide of Christian Soldier’s Life

On the 2nd of November, within the framework of visits to military units, Arshavir Kapoudjian, the BS of Armenia Projects Director, was hosted by the soldiers defending the western border of Armenia. During the meeting Mr. Kapoudjian introduced the role and significance of the Bible in the life of Christians, as well as living the Word of God on the way of that life. Sergeant G. Muradyan was particularly interested in the peculiarities of a Christian’s vocation and mission according to the Bible. Another soldier was concerned as how one could follow the Word of God and be free from prejudice and materialistic habits. Mr. Kapoudjian was pleased to answer all their questions. Summing up the meeting he notes that each person should read the Holy Scriptures which is a source of consolation and encouragement, strengthening and education. “However much we read the Bible, we are still unable to ultimately gain insight into all its thoughts. The more we get enriched with deep divine thoughts, again and again we discover new riches in the Bible. And if we genuinely dedicate ourselves to the Holy Scriptures, we eliminate our spiritual vacancy through it”, he said.

The Gospel According to Luke in Sign Language

On the 27th of September, the BS of Armenia celebrated the launch of DVD-s of the Gospel According to Luke in sign language. The event, headed by His Eminence Archbishop Yeznik Petrosyan, was held at the Yerevan State Puppet Theatre. The DVD-s are the outcome of the BS of Armenia and Araratian Pontifical Diocese joint efforts. The project was sponsored by the American Bible Society. The launch was opened with the Lord’s Prayer offered by His Eminence Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Catholic Diocese of Abuja, a member of the UBS Global Council and UBS Church Relations Committee. The video stories are presented by the young members of the deaf community. A sign language specialist Gohar Melikyan and Father Yesayi Artenyan have helped them a lot with that. Father Yesayi pointed out the history of the service dedicated to the deaf community and 14 years of collaberation with the BS of Armenia. The deaf community members adorned the event with pantomime performance of the Gospel According to Luke, from the birth to resurrection of Jesus. The celebration was closed by distributing the DVD-s. Participating in the event were His Eminece Archbishop Navasard Kchoyan, the Vicar of Araratian Pontifical Diocese; Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, high ranking representatives of the UBS, Eastern Orthodox Church and Oriental Orthodox Churches, Ashot Avetisyan, the Principal of the special school for children with hearing disorders and others. “This reminds me the story of the tower of Babel. People speaking different languages were not able to understand each other. Today, in this hall, we also speak different languages but we understand each other because we speak one language, the language of God,” His Eminence Archbishop Kchoyan said. Mr. Michael Perreau, UBS Director General, highly appreciated this great work aimed at bringing the word of God to all and everyone.
